They are a group of women from Horquetas de Sarapiquí who have organized themselves to offer what they know best and enjoy doing. They are farmers, housewives, artisans, bilingual naturalist professionals in the area. All with desires of economic improvement for their families. The group is called Association of Women in Rural Community Tourism of Sarapiquí and have called their initiative, Campos Azules.
In Campos Azules you will enjoy a wonderful experience during your visit to the sarapiqueas lowlands. An experiential experience that will allow you to have direct contact with the community, learn about the agricultural products that give you food every day, appreciate the creative work of your handmade hands, taste the delicious food of a family fireplace, observe and learn about the abundant flora and fauna that lives in the gardens, paddocks and forest patches, especially birds in the community, as well as the use they give to plants in Costa Rica, lectures and educational workshops on various topics of conservation and management of natural resources of the area, biodiversity and local culture, even swimming in the streams. Ideal experience for lovers of rural tourism, student groups, bird watchers, seniors and trips with children.
Cooking classes: This is an activity where many laughs and the human warmth of the expert cooks will be combined, with the desire to learn by their visitors and the good Costa Rican popular spoon. Tortillas, picadillos, patacones, among other delicacies, will be prepared and tasted by their cooking students. Always trying to show local agricultural products.
Sale and craft classes: Visitors can do manual work guided by one of the craftswomen. For example, draw drawings of your own inspiration on miniature pieces of Costa Rican clay. At the end of the class, the student can take a souvenir made by him.
Food service with local products: Specialists in preparing delicious recipes with locally harvested food (heart of palm, cassava, banana, among others). It requires a call to reserve in advance.
Birdwatching tour in the community: Before the tour starts, they will offer you a good coffee freshly blasted in the Costa Rican style. The walk originates in the house of one of their families, in areas of garden and riverine forest. Subsequently, the community is crossed over roads that cross wetlands, forest plantations, agricultural fields and pastures, to finally return to the point of exit. Excellent opportunity to enjoy the birds and learn about the local way of life. Optional: typical breakfast at the end of the walk.
Costa Rican ethnobotanical walk: You can walk between different agricultural crops, such as cassava, banana and corn. Taste fruit trees, learn about native and exotic ornamental plants, as well as the traditional use of some medicinal plants. The route is slow and slow, giving opportunity to observe birds and other local fauna. At the end of the tour, a snack will be served with products planted in the area and if you wish, you can refresh yourself in a small natural pool.
