For transit on the street

  • Consult the staff of your hotel or tour company about security considerations in the surrounding areas, for example, areas where walking at night is not recommended.
  • Always keep a handy map of the area and plan your route.
  • It is advisable not to walk alone during the night. Stay on well-lit streets.
  • Only use duly authorized taxis.

Keep your belongings safe

  • Make sure your belongings are always with you. Never leave them alone or in charge of strangers.

  • Use the safety equipment recommended by tourist companies.
  • Do not approach the edges of rivers without the recommend safety equipment.
  • Only swim in pools or rivers recommended by tourism companies. In Sarapiqui some of the rivers have strong and unpredictable currents.
  • That animals that live in the forest of Sarapiqui are wonderful to be observed, but it is important to remember that these are wild animals and therefore it is advisable not to interact with them, don’t try to touch them, feed them or scare them.
