Finca Guarumo is an organic agroecological farm lead by a Costa Rican family committed to the environment. They are dedicated to organic agriculture and the conservation of the natural environment through friendly management practices that maximize the use of natural resources, including energy, water and soil. They try to ensure that their processes are carried out in a clean manner and taking advantage of resources in a sustainable way.
Products and services:
• Organic products: They have an organic garden to grow fruits and vegetables from the area for the farm supply such as cocoa, banana, banana varieties, sweet potato, yucca, ñampí, soursop, coconuts, oranges, palmito and nonis. A small farm of chickens, ducks, wild turkeys and cows fill the needs of eggs, milk, cheese and meat. The surplus of products is marketed at the Green Market in San José.
• Lodging and food: Visitors can enjoy a rural experience in the heart of a Costa Rican family while they let themselves to be lulled by nature and delight in the exquisite typical dishes prepared with the same products from the garden. Gallo pinto with egg and custard, rice with chicken, mince of palm heart, tilapia with yucca and the traditional Costa Rican “casado” are just some of the exquisite foods that the farm offers.
• Tours and trails: Tours around the surprising abundance of local flora and fauna of the forest and the margins of the San José River. Visitors can enjoy a refreshing dip in the San José River and learn about the sustainable management practices of the farm, such as composting, biofertilizers, biogas production, vermiculture, among other practices.
